Today, the death of my friend Hannah really got to me. It didn’t make much sense to me why God would take someone with so much life. She had so much more to give, so much more to share, and now she’s just gone. A freak accident and that was it. That was all it took to change hundreds of lives and end hers. I just don’t understand. 

I will never forget Hannah waking me up at camp, winter of 2010, because of her “Jesus High.” She couldn’t stop dancing to this song, Hey by Leeland. She was overjoyed and literally was flailing so hard that she hit my bed, startled me, and I woke abruptly telling everyone in my room to be quiet. This song now brings tears to my eyes as it represents a memory of someone that was always so lively and outgoing. She was special. I never saw Hannah in a genuinely bad mood. She and her soon-to-be fiance, Jasper, were always the funniest in the group. They never let anyone see them down. 

So my question is, why her? Of all people, why did that bullet have to hit her? Someone that brought me so much joy and inspired me beyond compare. WHY HER? Today, the answer hit me square in the face. 

God didn’t take Hannah from us to punish us. He did it to reward her. She had reached all the people she was supposed to reach. She ministered to everyone she was supposed to minister to. Her job, here on earth, was finished and so our Father took her home. She is now looking down upon us, dancing her heart out before our Fathers throne. God took her from us to reward her. Since this hit me, the sadness I felt, isn’t as great. Am I crying as I type this? Yes. Are they tears of sadness? Not so much anymore. I know she’s happy. She’s serving God in Heaven and what more could any of us want? Her death was a reward. I’m sure that when she arrived and saw the throne of God, He turned to her and said “Well done, good and faithful servant!”
